My Guam Experience [07JUL2008-30SEP2008]
Guam is a small island in the Pacific. Check nyo na lang sa wikipedia :)
From the airport you will be greeted by the paging system with 3 languages. English, Chamorro and Tagalog (meron value Pinoy dito).
Paglabas ko sa airplane, deretso ko sa immigration. I was interviewed by the immigration officer and asked me kung ano gagawin ko sa Guam. I told them that I will be doing project implementation at Triple J Five Star Wholesale Foods, Inc. I asked for 3 months stay. The immigration officer said to me, "Three months! I don't believe you. Software Implementation for 3 months is too long." Anyways, 3 months stay pa rin binigay nya sa akin. Hehehe!
I've learned a lot when I was there like motorist stops when the school bus stops. They respect the students there. In return, adults are respected by them. Pedestrians are also respected there. Di nila kailangan ng pedestrian lane doon. Motorist's stops whenever there are pedestrian crossing the streets. Tumatawid naman mga tao sa tamang tawiran. Bihira ang mga tambay kasi kailangan mong mag work to survive, kaya walang masyadong tao sa kalsada. Drivers are disciplined, although there are some bad drivers out there.
When the incoming vehicle driver flashes his headlight, it means that you can go ahead of him. They are patiet enough and willing to wait. They do respect the road marks and traffic rules
Drivers here stays to their lane even though the traffic is heavy, walang nagka-counterflow. They are willing to wait for their turn, kasi nga pag nag-counterflow ka, either magtra-trapik lalo at baka banggain ka pa nila. RIGHT OF WAY IS BEING OBSERVED HERE
ROADS DESIGN...
U-Turn slots are friendly (MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, please visit there and please implement it on our country). When you are turning left, there is a special lane so that you cannot block the on-going traffic. There's no Public Utility Jeepney's here. Taxi dun eh Mitsubishi Montero. Either you rent a car, or hanap ka sponsor na maghahatid-sundot sayo or magsusundot-hatid :D)
Right of way are observed (Bawal ang ngumuso kundi babangaain ka), just like in Subic
Beaches are clean, I snorkled and kayak there, first time, ganda pala ng dagat, sarap makipaglaro sa mga isda. If not for my perforated eardrum nagtagal sana ako. Uulitin ko to pag may chance.
MALLS!
Ang liit ng malls don, GPO (Guam Premiere Outlet,1 Floor Only) and Micronesia Mall (Kay Lucio Tan daw ito. 2 Floors Only) ang pinakamalaki. Sa Foodcourt, CLAYGO ang policy. Clean As You Go ba. The people are the ones who puts their trash in the Trash Bin.
Ang mahal ng isda dito. Biruin mo hasa-hasa $4.99 isang kilo. 200 petot yun pag converted sa peso. Anyways, pag nandito ka wag mag convert kundi wala kang mabibili sa supermarket.
Yun nga lang mura ang Sony Digicam sa Naval Exchange kasi subsidized ng government. Nakibili ako ng Sony Digicam DSC-W120, $195 lang (convert to peso: 195.00x44.00=8,580.00, Sa www.sony.com.ph, ang price nya 16,999.00 petot. Kalahati ang difference. Next stop would be Nintendo WII (pag nakabalik).
Konti lang ang bilihan ng mga gadgets dito. Sa pinas may CdrKing tayo, doon ang mahal ng flash drive.
The effects of all of these experiences:
Although I still love our country, parang gusto ko na mag migrate o kaya mag work sa Mainland of USA. Naramdam ko hirap ng buhay sa ating bansa. I realized that our politicians and government officials (not all of them naman) are only thinking of themselves. Tapos tayo naman tino-tolerate natin sila.
They should do something about our country. They are our Leaders. If they want to be respected by the people, they should do what's expected/mandated of them.
Tigilan na nila yung Charter Change na yan. Pag pumayag mga tao sa Charter Change and after 10 years wala pa rin nangyari sa Pinas, malamang sabihih nila Charter Change ulit ang solution. Balik sa Presidential form of Government. Hay naku!
